I really need to do some rec posts, especially for the crazy amount of Avengers things that I have been loving, but since today is not that day I'm going to share some fun things at least:

Since it was the Queen’s jubilee today have an appropriate and amusing Sherlock gif (spoilers for 2.1): here

Speaking of amusing gifs, take a look at THIS Avengers one followed by THIS. No spoilers. Made my laugh my socks off.

Have a Star Trek 2 teaser trailer. It's on the way, yay!

An absolutely fantatic Tony Stark/Iron Man vid: Cuckoo by radiobroadcast on YouTube, footage from Iron Man and Iron Man 2.

Fix It is an absolutely amazing Coulson online comic/graphic novel/thing/I don't know, I was too busy staring at it! Spoilers for Avengers. Summary: a story of some Coulson, some doughnuts, and some fixing.

There is a Coulson game. I am pants at it, ha.

I’ve doing a load of rec posts for many wonderful Natasha, Clint, and Natasha/Clint things over on [livejournal.com profile] be_compromised where there are many great things. Take a look!

the common sense guide to surviving the zombie apocalypse from Postcard and gyzym on tumblr. Amusing and full of common sense. Also, I do not think I will survive, heh.

Downstairs, In Baker Stree by [livejournal.com profile] behtan_b_bad (PG13, 5,254). A mash up of many different fandoms, the most obvious being Sherlock BBC, James Bond, and RED, with spoilers for Sherlock 2.3. I absolutely love this. It is full of ladies and mature ladies for the win. They solve things and kick butt and this is the Mrs Hudson for me.

See title. (And I’m really not joking about the ‘epic’.) I keep meaning to link to vids and fics that I’ve liked (and loved) and never do, which is shameful, so here be vid recs (although none with Rory, because I have plans for those *grins*). If you’re worried about spoilers note what footage is used for each. Also, I tried to put them in a storytelling order if you like recommended viewing lists ;)

X Men Vid Recs )

Sherlock Vid Recs )

It's times like these that I realise I seriously need to either rec as soon as I see/read something, or organise my internet favourites and tags far better! So, after a quick trawl though my links I bring you recs in which women rock. Please do rec me more!

One of the best Molly fics ever. Summary: In which Molly Hooper gets a job, gets a degree, breaks a heart, has her heart broken, falls in love, keeps a secret, saves a life, runs a morgue, falls apart, pulls it together, and finds exactly what she didn't know she was looking for--not necessarily in that order.

I wrote a Torchwood/Firefly crossover for the Post-Christmas Blues fest at [livejournal.com profile] torchwood_fest in which long after the events of Miracle Day and some time after Serenity (the film) Jack hires the crew of Serenity to do a job for Torchwood Tweleve: Moments; Singular. It's an adult rating (for sexing, swearing, and people shooting at each other) so it had to be member-locked I'm afraid, but I'll be archiving it on here at the end of the fest if you don't have member access over there. There are lots of lovely crossovers happening and none of the others are a high enough rating to be locked yet, so take a look!

(I am not used to being the person with the high rating, especially considering compared to a lot of the stuff I read online what i've written is, well, tame. I don't know whether to feel proud or corupted lol.)
***

I haven't seen Thor or Captain America yet and I really need to because The Avengers is on the way! Having not seen all three I have still already started reading Avengers fanfic.

Ready, Fire, Aim by [livejournal.com profile] gyzym, along with the sequel Situation Normal: All Fucked Up are glorious stories with hilarity and touching moments and eventual Steve/Tony. The summary is There is no "I" in "Avenger". Steve and Tony don't get along at first, but things start to get better, especially after the Avengers end up moving into Tony's New York mansion. I have much love for the way every character is written in these. There's also Momentum, which is Ready, Fire, Aim from Steve's point of view. They're long, but oh so enjoyable.
***

And I am watching far too many fanvids. these are the days (of miracles and wonder) by [livejournal.com profile] kaydeefalls is X Men love. Suddenly I See by [livejournal.com profile] kuwdora is the girls of Castle and Castle's admiration of them. You Told The Drunks I Knew Karate by Settiai is a fun Doctor Who Amy and Rory vid of brilliance. And Dwell in thee by catminolte is an incredibly beautiful 'The Girl Who Waited' (Doctor Who) vid.

Must hunt down more vids now. Happy Wednesday all!

Why yes, I am listening to Florence and The Machine's Ceremonials, which is fantastic and I would turn cartwheels in honour of these recs. If I could actually do a cartwheel, which I can't, no, but I could do a forward roll if you like. Maybe.

HERE there is a possible TARDIS siting in Sherlock's 'Hound of the Baskervilles' which is possibly confirmed by Steven Moffat. Much amusement!

HERE is a very fun Doctor Who fanvid by [livejournal.com profile] lady_with_cats in which the Eleventh Doctor likes showing off. And kissing. Lots of both. And moves like Jagger. You cannot help but be cheered up.

HERE is a Star Trek XI fanvid. I can't remember if I've recommended it before or not, but if so it would deserve a second shout out. It deserves many shout outs! It's the whole crew being all kinds of amazing by [livejournal.com profile] jactrades.

HERE is an incredible fic called The Republic of Heaven by [livejournal.com profile] blind_author which is a Sherlock and His Dark Materials crossover in which Sherlock and John live in the London of Lyra's world long after the events of Philip Pullman's novels. It is a WIP, just to warn you, but the author seems good about updating and it's worth reading regardless. The summary is: Born to a witch and a human, people know Sherlock will be unusual from the start. John Watson, on the other hand, seems perfectly ordinary, except for his dæmon...

In fact, HERE, have a huge list of brilliant Sherlock recs compiled by [livejournal.com profile] sciosophia. Stories that'll knock your socks off.

Happy Monday all!

Sharing some things that have made me smile a lot:

David Attenborough says "it's a wonderful world" with Frozen Planet and by the end of this vid I couldn't believe otherwise.

Love Is Cool, a Doctor Who vid with Amy, Rory, River, and Eleven by purplefringe and such_heights is indeed made of love.

Aptronyms by ElapsedSpiral is a Sherlock BBC fic (1,700 words, PG13, Gen, AU) which is summarised as: Mr Sherlock Holmes and Dr John Watson are characters created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle; Mr Sherlock Holmes and Dr John Watson are the unfortunate sods named after them (AKA a rather strange AU of 2010 Sherlock). This is oh so fantastic and had me laughing.

As did Temps by humantales (17,982 words, Teen+, Gen) in which Torchwood need a technical specialist and a doctor, which the government are getting on Jack's case about, and Mycroft is trying to keep Sherlock and John (Sherlock BBC) safe from Moriarty without having to spend too much on repairing the damage that Sherlock can cause to a safe house. It is, as Mycroft says, a terrifying match made it heaven and I love it. It's episodic, everyone is in character, and everyone just fits together brilliantly.

Hopefully these will help ease those mid-week blues :)

I write Narnia fics now? Okay, apparently so. I did also write some Firefly, Doctor Who, X Men First Class, Fringe, and Sherlock. Phew! My prompt fills from the Three Sentence Ficathon 2011:

Narnia, any, what if a Talking Beast is born intelligent but unable to speak? )

adventure/fantasy genre, trains, take you anywhere )

Narnia/Who, Susan/The Doctor, This is the last stop. )

Narnia, Peter and Edmund, fondness for knives, after Narnia )

Firefly, Mal/River, can't get you out of my head )

X-Men First Class, Darwin, like a beacon calling me home )

Chronicles of Narnia, Susan & Edmund, if I only could make a deal with god, and get him to swap our places )

Narnia, Peter, he was getting too old for this )

Narnia, Edmund, spymaster )

Doctor Who/Fringe, any, count the stars one by one )

Doctor Who/Fringe, Donna, Walter would be able to fix her mind in a jiffy )

Narnia, Susan & Lucy, they were so very different )

Doctor Who/Sherlock, the Doctor and Sherlock Holmes, so a Time Lord and a consulting detective walk into a bar )

Firefly, River and Wash, she gets ahold of his dinosaurs )

Chronicles of Narnia, Susan, with a backup makeshift life in waiting )

Sherlock, female!Sherlock, genius )

I have also been a very lucky girl when it comes to my prompts getting filled as well. Really, they're all fantastic and I feel spoilt. Take a look at these lovelies:

Firefly, Wash, the first time he flew (two fills!)
Doctor Who, any, the light goes out on the top of the TARDIS (three fills!)
Harry Potter, any + Hogwarts, there are so many secrets (four fills! And then one turned into a back-and-forth thing!)
Narnia/Torchwood, Susan (+/any), Susan works at or gets a job at Torchwood (two fills!)
Torchwood/Narnia, Jack + Peter and or Edmund, Jack comes across the Pevensie lads during the war (all soldiers)
Firefly, any, there are times when it goes smooth, this is just not one of those times (long fill!)
Firefly, any, people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones
And then this happened from the Doctor Who/Fringe prompts!

EDIT 05/12/11: for more fills both by and for me :)
EDIT 13/12/11: for even more :D

Whilst you're waiting for more Doctor Who, or hoping for a Doctor Who film ;)

Okay, I do not even know what this is, but. I was playing around with making a Doctor Who playlist and then I realised that a lot of the songs that I wanted to use were on vids, so then came lots of vid watching. I found many brilliant ones that I wanted to recommend, but rather than just list them I thought I'd make a kind of vid playlist. This, then, is a kind of Who story through vids, which use clips from Original Who, New Who, Torchwood, and The Sarah Jane Adventures, although a bit Eleven heavy. Plus some extras at the end. Enjoy! I know I did.

Behind the cut: we're all stories in the end )

Has anyone not seen the Doctor Who clip from Children in Need last night complete with clip from the upcoming Christmas Special? No? Naked Doctor this way.

Letters From an Unhinged Mind by [livejournal.com profile] rollingstone (Doctor Who, U, 395 words) in which the Fourth Doctor (but it doesn't really matter which Doctor) apologies to to Obi-Wan Kenobi and gets annoyed about stolen jellybabies made me laugh today.

And I've slowly but surely been hunting down a lot of old links that were lost when I changed to my new laptop. Much to my disappointment I can't seem to recover a pile of them. Imagine then my delight on finding my favourite Firefly rec list was in my LJ memories. I forgot about those! So, a reminder for you all that it exists as well because there's some fantastic fics on there.

Edit for extra smiles: a smiley Kaylee and Inara friendship vid to the tune of Suddenly I See and a Wash/Zoe vid with a summary of ripping each other's clothes in a most peculiar way, both by purplefringe on dreamwidth.

Happy Saturday!

I made an attempt at catching up on the goodness that appeared on the nets recently. Some of the wonderful I found, let me share it with you:

Christmas Eve with the Ponds by [livejournal.com profile] dqbunny Doctor Who (T, 3241 words)
Summary: Because it was their second Christmas as a married couple, Amy and Rory told their families they preferred to spend Christmas Eve on their own. They decided to omit the part where they were spending the holiday with their adult daughter and her husband.

I was going to save this and read it later, because i'm in denial that Christmas is on the way, but i'm so very glad that I didn't wait. This has hilarity, crazy Monopoly, sexy times, and is just full of wonderful. (Rory especially shined for me.)

Women in Western Political Thought by [livejournal.com profile] such_heights Doctor Who AU (1500 words, no rating but I'd say PG or lower)
Summary: In which Amy and Rory are philosophy MA students and Amy is into student politics. Featuring lots of other New Who characters.

If anyone hasn't read this yet, go forth and read in awe. The graphic at the end is prettyful as well.

Speechless by anonymous (? I couldn't find reveals) Harry Potter (R, one shot)
Summary: Can a heart be put back together?

This is something a bit different - prose that reads like poetry. It's Draco and Ginny in the ten years after the war is over and the story is interesting, but it was the beautiful writing that stole my heart.

Stranger Things by [livejournal.com profile] akissinacrisis Harry Potter (15, 5800 words)
Summary: Wars make people do mad things. But if Seamus ever finds out about this, he’s dead. Dean and Luna, throughout Deathly Hallows. Charcoal, driftwood and fishfingers abound.

This slots into canon perfectly, the characterisation and the feelings running throughout this are spot on, and Dean's voice brings it to life in a style all his own.

Happy Halloween folks! Hope everyone has a fun evening. If, like me, your Halloween happened over the weekend or you otherwise find yourself without any pumpkin type plans here are some recs for you:

Fiive Times Rory Williams Was Not A Werewolf by [livejournal.com profile] pocketmouse (Dr Who, PG13, 3000 words) is a recent story about just what the title says. It's clever, funny, sweet, and I love it.

Take My Love is an oldie but a goodie Firefly webcomic 'of carnage'.

And Harry Potter fans should run not walk over to HP_Halloween for short spooky tales. I especially like Number 12, Grimmauld Place (Appearing Hallowe'en Night Only) by [livejournal.com profile] luvscharlie (R), Almost by [livejournal.com profile] erised1810 (G), and A New Tradition by [livejournal.com profile] literaryspell (G).

These have probably been recommended all over the place, but they're so damn good I feel I have to add my recommendations to the pile, on the off-chance that there is anyone on my f-list that hasn't read them. You should. They are made of fantastic.

A Girl Needs A Gun These Days by [livejournal.com profile] vialethe is a Firefly fic that focuses on the women of Serenity saving the day, which is not surprising seeing as it was written for [livejournal.com profile] girlsavesboyfic. It does so in style! The interactions between everyone are spot on, it reads like an episode, and there are so many wonderful details thrown in. I loved this. I want to see this Zoe and River in action more often! Add assertive Kaylee, clever Inara, a touch of Saffron, and shake.

Ceci n'est plus qu'un conte de fée by is a beautiful Dr Who piece (spoilers for all aired episodes by the way) about River and the Doctor, and Rory and Amy, and fairytales. The writing and style are exquisite and the characterisations are brilliant. I especially love Rory's part in this and River constructing herself through her choices.

And two Harry Potter fics: 'til the water runs clear by [livejournal.com profile] flower_carnage and try and hide the night by [livejournal.com profile] tosca1390, which are both, put simply, about the next-gen kids finding out about the war and trying to get their families to open up about it. Put better, they're about families, communication, how the past informs the future, and change. The first one is Scorpius Malfoy and the second is the Potters, although specifically James. I love group interactions and family dynamics in fics, but these are particularly great at that.

Fanfiction: putting the fantastic on the internets ;)

I thought I'd be non-traditional for Valentine's Day, so instead of recommending stories about the hearts-and-flowers happy lives of couples I'm recommending stories with threesomes. *grins*  These are some of my absolute favourites from the Harry Potter verse, although there are lots that I've really enjoyed. (And there are one of two stories that I haven't posted because I seem to have lost the links, including a beautifully written Percy/Anthony/Neville short story that was written not so long ago, if I remember rightly, and if anyone could send me a link to that I'd be all kinds of happy.) Trawling through the 'mulitples' tag here on know-it-alls leads to a lot of lovely fic, including links to some of those posted below probably.

So, hope you all have a happy Valentine's Day and a good weekend!

I hope everyone had a fantastic festive season - or at least some moments of fun for those who really weren't looking forward to it this year *hugs* - and I wish you all the very best for the New Year!

I promised you a rec list of one of my favourite stories from each member of my f-list and here it is. For some of you this was really hard to do because you've written an awful lot - I hadn't realised just how <i>much</i> some of you have written and my mind boggles - for some of you this was really hard to do because I like too many of your stories, and for all of you this was really hard because I always find it difficult choosing just one of anything! That said, I hope this list give a happy start to you New Year.

(In alphabetical order by author. Click on title of fic for link. Ratings provided for all, word counts when given. Then a brief summary, why I favourite it, and, in brackets, the mood.)

The cure for NaNoWriMo word count blues, cold weather colds, and the world going dark before the end of the working day: amusing fanfiction.  In fact, the ultimate cure for me is Lelia Burke's X Men serise The Early Years.  Only a basic understanding of the X Men is needed, which is great because personally I've only watched the movies, and whilst the stories move towards Scott/Jean the emphasis is on the pranks and trouble that Hank, Warren, Scott, Bobby and Jean get into as Xavier's students.  There is plot, humour, sarcasm, hilarity and just that nice touch of romance.  Rated at about PG13, there are ten stories, all longer than someone writing NaNoWriMo should probably be reading, but if you really feel you don't have time bookmark them and go back later. :o)

Back before JK Rowling wrote a short 800 story for the Waterstones 'What's you story?' there was a challenge community for fanfic authors to write their own 'prequel' style fic.  The challenge was as follows: "use 800 words exactly, no more, no less, to tell us a bit about what happened in the years before Harry's birth. Plot, characters, and themes are up to you.£  The community is here.

And the reason I tell you this?  Because people are all so very busy with NaNoWriMo, NaNoBlogMo, fanfiction challenges and all sorts of busy-ness that maybe we don't have time to read much at the moment, but a love of reading is the reason why most of us write in the first place, so check out this masterlist of brilliant short stories.  They won't take up much of your time and hopefully the reminder of how fun reading is will encourage us to write more this weekend. :o)

Happy Halloween!  Here are some lovely fics for your weekend reading pleasure to go with all the sweets and sugary things collected tonight.

Two peices of Harry Potter fanfiction...

The Line in the Sand by [livejournal.com profile] lls_mutant
PG13, warnings for AU and angst
The summary is this: "Everyone does things they know they shouldn't. Sometimes, they even regret them. When Peter confessed to Sirius that he was a Death Eater, the world changed."
There's so much that I love about this story that I don't want to spoil you by telling, so can I just say that this is absolutely brilliant?  And yes, there's angst, but stay for the wonderful moments of humour, because what would Padfoot, Moony, Wormtail and Prongs be without those?
Quote: "I repeat," Peter said. "Horcrux. Instrument of truly Dark magic, so evil the subject is banned from Hogwarts. I'm holding it in my hand."

Under the Ivy by coffeejunkii
short, PG13, Harry/Draco
I love how this story treats disabilities.  I love the beautifully written way this author shows how people don't have to be fixed, just understood.
Quote: Until now, Harry thought that if he only tried harder and worked more on his speech, people would eventually understand him, but now it occurs to him that maybe those around him need to learn how to listen differently.

...and a Firefly story.

Two Gorram Days by Dyce
approx. 9,000 words, PG
Summary: "Post 'Objects in Space', pre 'Serenity'. Jayne is left all alone with a bad leg and a crazy girl for two days."
This is a Jayne-River friendship (at at least Jayne-River getting-along-together) story that works without changing the nature of either character.  For that alone it would be worth reading, but the reactions of the rest of the crew, when they return, are priceless.
Quote: "Jayne, I want you to be honest with me. Did you knowingly and with intent use a metaphor on that child?"

I think i'm going to try and rec a few things every friday, for people to read over the weekend. Since most of my internet favourites list consists of links to fics I should have enough to keep me going for a while, although I tend to spread the love of stories that I've read or reread recently. Please do forgive me, though, if I ever rec a fic that is so brilliant that everyone has already heard of it. :o)

And now, one long...

Dumbledore's Army and the Year of Darkness by Thanfiction
(can be found on its own website here or on fanfiction.net here)
approx. 250,000 words, rated R or M, warnings for extremely graphic violence
The story of what happened at Hogwarts during Deathly Hallows from the viewpoint of Neville Longbottom, who becomes the Commander of the DA. It quickly becomes apparent that the summary Neville gave Harry at the end of the book about what they'd been up was an understatement, but then isn't that just Neville all over?
There is so much I loved about this, from the fully-realised characters that are merely peripheral in canon, to lots of wonderful little world building details, witty dialogue and hilarious moments, and the final battle, which is more heart wrenching than ever when you are fully invested in every single person.
Quote: "I mean," Neville shrugged, "sure, we all know Dumbledore had something planned with Harry, but we don't know what, and we're not waiting to find out. If Harry can stop You-Know-Who first, that's brilliant. But these are our freedoms too, and we're not sitting back and waiting on someone else's plan." - Neville to Aberforth

...and two short...

The Two-Step of Death by [livejournal.com profile] lady_game
10 x 100 words, PG13
Ten drabbles focusing on ten characters post Halfblood Prince, beautiful written, with so much said in so few words.
Quote: He likes his magical eye, because it means he can look over his shoulder without even having to turn his head.

That Other Fellow by [livejournal.com profile] sciathan_file
guess-timate of 3,000 words, PG13 to be on the safeside
A wonderfully clever story showing the war through the eyes of the Muggle Prime Minister. Remus and Charlie feature, but Kingsley, or rather the PM's view of Kingsley, stole the show for me.
Quote: "Make a call to this department," replied the Prime Minister at a length, handing his assistant a slip of paper. "Tell them that it is a matter of extreme government secrecy and diplomatic delicacy and, if you have any issues, I shall be here running my half of the country. If any wand waving madmen happen to make it through the fireplace, I'll scream."

Most people are busy during the week and get their fic doses at the weekend, but at the moment I'm the other way around. I thought, then, that I'd try and share some of the best fics, or at least my favourite fics, of the ones I've read during the week so I can contribute to the fic dosage. :o)

This week has been mostly Harry Potter, so I bring you:

20 Facts About Neville Longbottom by [livejournal.com profile] nopejr
1,314 words, 12+
The twenty facts in question tell Neville's story from the end of Deathly Hallows to the epilogue, all those years later. The telling of it is brilliant and all the people within it are wonderfully in character.
Quote (first line): Really, it was just like dead-heading (ha ha) the Dragon-roses.

The Year of Driving Languorously by [livejournal.com profile] enderxenocide
2,193 words, R, warnings for AU after HPB, threesomes, grave robbing, and petty theft
A trio story with a Horcrux hunt. I really liked the feel/atmosphere of this story, and the details - all Horcrux hunts should involve post-it notes.
Quote: It takes them all afternoon to pack, as Hermione insists that they keep track of all of the books, potion ingredients, and detectors that they are borrowing (stealing, Ron corrects).

L'Effet by [livejournal.com profile] artemis_sparks
approx. 4000 words, PG13
It's always nice to read stories about Slytherins that show them as neither good nor evil, but people. This is a fantastic Pansy-Draco friendship fic, wonderfully written and rich with details, and the last three lines are perfect.
Quote: She doesn’t want to go to the ball, but Draco makes her. He wears black robes with a lovely mandarin collar and tapered sleeves; he looks unfortunately like a vampire.

I would like to share the amazing stories people have written for me in fests this summer which have made me all kinds of happy :o)
Firstly, in the Weasley Fest, [personal profile] luvscharlie wrote me a fun story with lots of witty dialogue and humour, some wonderful Weasley family interaction, including a great full-family scene, and brilliant characterisation. Real feel-good, cheerful stuff, with a side helping of dragons. Plus sex and romance.

Title: We Start and End with Family
Author: [personal profile] luvscharlie
Gift For:[personal profile] inkvoices
Rating: NC-17
Featured Character or Pairing: Fred/Hermione (with Percy/Penelope and Charlie/Viktor on the side)
Summary: When the stresses of parenthood weigh heavily on Hermione, her husband, Fred Weasley, arranges for them to have some time alone. AU fic.
Warnings: Strong sexual content, slash and het. content and adult language
Word Count: 19,037 total

Then in the Washathon [personal profile] sugar_fey showed just how well she knows me by writing a fic that is not only brilliant, but even features a bar called The Strutting Dodo. It has Wash/Zoe early romance, great dialogue, humour, fun, and Wash can fly.

Title: Light Surrounding You
Author: [personal profile] sugar_fey
Recipient: [personal profile] inkvoices
Rating: PG-13
Assignment: Inkvoices requested either preseries genfic or Wash/Zoe, where we see Wash fly with brilliance and also witness the downside/less attractive part of being a pilot. I hope this sort of covers what you wanted!
Summary: Who knew being shot had its advantages...

And do go read the rest of the Weasley Fest and Washathon entries, because there's lots of amazing stuff.  So much, in fact, that I'm still working my way through it all!  Enjoy :o)
