I knew Martin Freeman, aka Dr Watson in the BBC's Sherlock, was playing young Bilbo, but I found out today that apparently Benedict Cumberbatch, aka Sherlock himself, is playing Smaug.

Freeman: Ha, this time I have the title role. I am THE Hobbit.
Cumberbatch: Yeah, but I'm a dragon and you have hairy feet. Don't kid yourself.
