fanvid help?

I'm attempting - attempting - a new creative thing. As in a short fanvid, using iMovie. It's a small project that I've been wanting to try for a few years and there's no time like the present, right? So I've started playing around with it for a bit each night. Only I've hit a wall. How do people get film footage from movies onto their computer in a way that they can do some simple edits?

I own the films I want to use footage from, I've loaded them onto my laptop, I've tried putting them in iTunes and dragging them into iMovie, and I've tried handbrake. I think it might be to do with films being protected? But then I tried a trial of something called TunesKit which said it would remove the DRM. Which it seems to do, but then the file still wasn't available in iMovie. And whilst I don't mind paying for a programme to solve my problem, I don't want to spend money on something when the trial doesn't work.

Any help or advice???

Hmmm. Usually, my footage comes from either torrents, and I've never had a problem, or I put everything through Handbrake. Never had a problem there, either. (And this usually Marvel films. I haven't vidded a huge amount of variety lol.)

BUT. I have noticed things like, I downloaded the Avengers movie on iTunes, but I can't use that iTunes mp4 file because it's protected and won't let me. So maybe it's something like that?

I'm a relatively new vidder, having only started vidding about 2 years ago or so (and I only pretty much vid for exchanges or cons) but I've found that YouTube tutorials are really helpful. Also, try the vidding community (username is vidding, I think) on LJ. They have a bunch of info there and help items and you might find stuff.

Yeah, this is mostly Marvel films - no surprise there ;)

Torrents might be a way around it then. Slow, with my internet connection, but i'll be happy if it works. Any recs for torrent sites? And thank you for pointing me in some good directions :)

Heee I figured. :) THIS IS A GOOD THING. (I am just gonna vid Marvel for the rest of my life.)

I use KickAss primarily and they tend to have a pretty good selection. I know some other people use PutLocker. I think anything should work as long as you have that torrent client (I use Vuze if that's helpful, which is also free.)

Lemme know if you have any other vidding questions -- I'm not like, super super knowledgable, but I learned a fair amount for myself and am happy to help if I can. :)

Hello! This might be a little late, but xD

What I do is I use a screencap thing and I screencap (screen record?) the parts of the movie I want - so I have a few short clips that I drag into my video editing studio to edit. This is so much easier, because the whole movie would be really long and hard to edit. Screencapping also makes it easier in the long run, because you can re-use your screencaps and that really helps if you want to video in the long run.

If you don't mind paying, I really recommend Corel VideoStudio. I think it comes with a screencapping thing too, but I really don't know, as my dad gave the video studio to me and it was just.. there, haha. (I assume it came with the videostudio?) I use both the screencapping thing and the video studio, and I love it!
