Thanking you!!! I had thinky thoughts after reading
workerbee73's meta on how Clint and Natasha take on hyper-masculine and hyper-feminine roles in the film and how they're the same, but also opposites, the whole yin-yang, two sides of the same coin thing. Anyhow, I thought that if Selvig could build a failsafe into the machine then surely Clint, so good at what he does, must have had his own failsafe? That seen where he, Selvig, and Loki discuss what the Tesseract shows always seemed to have more behind it for me. And then according to the meta's logic, the one person who could take Clint out would be his equal and opposite, and did he
really need to get that close on the helicarrier, especially knowing that she'd be the one person who could take him out? So: FAILSAFE. Then when I started writing this I realised that it could also mirror him not killing Natasha when they first meet...
Also, Master Assassins: Expect The Unexpected ;)
So glad you enjoyed it :D
